Photo: Iris prolapsing from cataract wound

Last updated December 29, 2007

irisprolapsesclera.jpg
This photograph shows a scleral wound from a complicated cataract surgery. You can see that the conjunctiva has pulled superiorly, and an x-suture is closing the majority of the wound. To the right of the suture, however, you can see a spot of dark pigment … this is actually a piece of iris that has prolapsed from the incision.

To get a better idea how this looks in reality, you may want to watch our iris prolapse video from which this was captured.
