Photo: Iris Prolapse

irisprolapse.jpg
This photo shows a scleral cataract wound from a complicated cataract surgery. You can see a small x-suture, with an area of pigment to the right of it. This is a bit of iris that is traped in the wound, and wicking fluid from the anterior chamber.

To get a better view of this, and watch the seidel test of the iris prolapse, check out the iris prolapse video.

What does traped mean? The description of the photo says “This is a bit of iris that is traped in the wound…” I’m having cataract surgery in six weeks, so I am investigating every thing I can about the surgery. How does the iris get traped in the wound, and how common is it?

Thanks.

I had cataract surgery and I was informed that I had iris prolapse a week later during the follow up doctor visit. AS recommended by the doctor, I undergoes corrective another surgery, however the surgery is not fully successful whereby currently the iris is not round and shape like water drop. The doctor said that nothing much can be done as the iris had stuck in position. The surgery was performed with ECCE technique. Currently the eye has high astigmatism of value -300

Question:
1. Is the doctor statement correct?
2. What is you suggestion for the cure for the iris back to it round shape and correct the astigmatism.

About 2 weeks ago, my 4 year old son fell into the corner of a coffee table and ruptured his eye, we were very fortunate that they managed to save the eye. Almost all the contents in his eye had oozed out. They filled it with saline, and closed it up. There is still alot of blood in his eye, and it looks, smaller than his other. Hes developing a cataract, so they are going to go in and replace it with a plastic lens. Anyway, my question is, since the iris and pupil part of his eye look smaller than its supposed to be, is there a way they can fix this? Its still healing, and looks decently round, so I guess thats good. But what about the color? He has the most amazing blue eyes! Im trying to find out as much info as possible to prepare for the future. As of right now, he can only see light and dark. We wont know too much about vision for a few weeks. Please email me with any advice! JErnst07@aol.com
Thank you!
