Elschnig pearl formation on implant (Photo)

elschnig pearl formation

This photograph of the eye shows the formation of Elschnig pearls on a cataract implant. These grape-like clusters are formed from residual lens epithelial cells that migrate along the remaining capsular bag. They are only seen under the microscope and are almost always visually insignificant.

To get a better idea of what these pearls look like, you may want to watch our Elshnig pearl video from which this image was taken.
