This video shows munson’s sign (indenting of the lower eyelid) in an eye with keratoconus. The cone shape of the corneal surface can be easiest seen when the eye looks down, as it forces the middle eyelid to notch forward somewhat.
Keratoconus is a common and difficult eye problem for those suffering from it. It is important to be able to pick these findings on ophthalmology exam. Other associated clinical findings include Vogt’s striae, ruzutti’s light reflex (watch our ruzutti video to see this) and Fleisher iron rings around the base of the cone.
