Neovascularization of the Iris (Video)
Last updated August 11, 2007About this Video
This video shows an interesting anterior segment exam. This pt. has a non-seeing eye from an old optic nerve glioma. The cornea has band keratopathy, but most striking in this clip is the sheer amount of new vessels that have formed on the iris itself.
Neovasulirzation of the iris is common, especially in cases of severe diabetic retinopathy, central retinal vein occlusions, and ocular ischemic syndrome. However, in these acute cases the vessels are very small and difficult to ascertain, especially when confined to the angle. The vessels in this video are obviously very large and thus easier to record.
