Phylectenule on surface of cornea (Photo)

phylectenuleeye.jpg

This microscopic photograph shows the cornea surface in a patient suffering from blepharitis. This raised bump is a phylectenule, an inflammatory nodule that is caused by a hypersensitivity reaction to staph antigens.

This picture is very magnified, so may be hard to put into context. To get a better idea what this looks like, be sure to watch our phylectenule video (from which this snapshot was captured).
