Lens Sutures (Photo)

This photograph shows the lens sutures seen in the normal human lens. These sutures form because of how the lens epithelial cells proliferate during formation.

Now, you probably can’t really see those sutures in this photograph alone (they are very subtle and hard to photograph unless a cataract forms in them). Instead, try watching our lens suture video from which this snapshot was taken. You’ll be able to see the y-suture in the lens as the slit-light beam plays across the lens.
