Iris Coloboma (Photo)

This photograph shows an iris coloboma defect in the infero-temporal iris. Colobomas tend to occur in this quadrant because this is the last portion of the eye to close.

If you look closely (even better, watch the coloboma video from which this snapshot was taken) you can see the edge of the lens behind the area of defect.
