
This photograph is a microscopic picture taken of an eye at the slitlamp with a hypopyon. Also spelled “hypopion” this is a layer of pus in the bottom of the front anterior chamber of the eye.
If you look closely at the upper left-hand portion of the photo, you can see a clear tube entering the interior of the eye. This is a tube-shunt, likely an Ahmed tube, that is the culprit behind this case of endophthalmitis.
