Blood Layering in the Eye (Photo)

hyphema-chamber.jpg

This photograph of the eye shows a layer of blood in the anterior chamber, called a “hyphema.” This bleeding is internal and caused by blunt trauma. If you look closely, you can actually see two layers … the bottom layer is darker and the top is redder and made of fresh rbcs.

To get a better idea how this looks, you may want to check out our bleeding hyphema eye video from which this snapshot was taken.
