Dendritic HSV Cornea (Photo)

Last updated September 2, 2007

hsvkeratitis.jpg

This photo shows a magnified fiew of an HSV ulcer on the cornea of the eye. These lesions are caused by reactivation of HSV in the cranial nerves, and are caused by the non-sexual HSV1 variant. You can see in this photo that the lesion/ulcer lights up with fleuroscein and has a standard branching pattern with bulbus/dendritic ends.

This photograph was taken from our dendritic hsv video, which you may want to check out if interested in seeing how this looks in vivo.
