Metal Removed from eye with needle (Photo)

Last updated September 1, 2007

This metal foreign body in the eye is being removed with an 18 guage needle. Some people prefer smaller needle sizes, but I feel the 18 guage is blunter and stiffer, and causes less stromal damage.

To see how this is done, watch our foreign body removal video from which this snapshot was captured.
