Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty Problem (Photo)

Last updated August 31, 2007

dsaeklayers.jpg

This photo shows a cornea that has had DSAEK. The inner endothelial layer has not yet adhered to the rest of the cornea, which you can see in how the cornea lights up with the slit-beam. Can you see the bubble of gas above?

Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty is a wonderful procedure that has revolutionized corneal transplant surgery in the subset of transplants that it can be used.

To get a better idea how this particular cornea looks, check out or DSAEK video from which this snapshot was taken.
